The Snowy Mountains are the tallest mountains in the Australian Alps and feed some of the major river systems of the Murray-Darling Basin. This study looked at the climatology and predictability of wintertime precipitation in this region. Motivated by the recent drought in southeastern Australia, this study employed a clustering analysis to categorize the climatology of daily precipitation with the aim of improving the precipitation forecasts of the ACCESS-R model. To reach a deeper understanding of the dynamical and physical processes that characterize the precipitation characteristics in this region, numerical simulations of the meteorology for a case study was performed.
