This thesis studies how impulsivity and self-control manifest in people’s beliefs, decision-making, and their daily lives. It aims to create a new understanding of these complex topics and develops behavioural interventions to help people make better decisions. Using methodologies from philosophy, psychology, and economics, the thesis identifies several interventions that diminish the strength of urges, help people be more consistent, and more willing to sacrifice their freedoms to do their part in protecting public health.
