Due to rising antimicrobial resistance, novel antibacterial agents are in great demand. One such complex is phenyl bismuth bis(diphenyl phosphinato). However, its prospect to develop antimicrobial materials was not fully understood. This PhD thesis studies the engineering aspects of the complex in nanocellulose-based materials to understand its potential for three distinct applications: active packaging material, wound care hydrogel and water disinfection filter. Subsequently, this thesis expands the knowledge about the safety and antimicrobial efficacy of the complex, thereby exploring new opportunities for its utility.
