This study suggests: recovery is an action-based process of change; recovery is situated in places and spaces with material elements holding agency; local cultural elements influence perspectives and experiences of recovery; political-geographical complexities within interface regions limit the capacity for nuanced local service system responsiveness. These hypotheses suggest that place influences health. Therefore, future research needs to focus on how place matters, particularly in regions that suffer resource and health disparity
