This thesis examines slave resistance in New England between 1650 and 1800. Drawing on a longer period, it extends the scope of subjects to both Native American and African American slaves and explores resistance within both the colonial and Revolutionary context. Crucial to this story are the voices and experiences of enslaved people – both men and women. Across all chapters, it considers the strategies, networks, and resources which they utilised. Focusing on these stories reveals more about the nature of slave resistance, slavery, and the longer history of abolition within this region.
