Work engagement amongst immigrant employees in Australia: The role of cultural experiences, intercultural competence and diversity climate perceptions

thesis
posted on 2021-02-25, 22:51 authored by DAVINA DIAS
Australia is a culturally diverse country, with immigrants forming a substantial part of society and the workforce. Existing literature highlights the difficulties immigrants face in the Australian labour market. Steering away from this traditional research area, this thesis examines how personal and organisational factors such as past cultural experiences, intercultural competence, and perceptions of organisational diversity management policies and practices, can positively influence immigrant employees’ experiences within their new work environment. Recommendations are made to help Australian organisations manage cultural diversity more effectively; from encouraging evidence-based recruitment and development, to practical interventions that can help foster a positive diversity climate.
