The face is key to communication, especially the eyes. This thesis explores the lived experience of people living with Facial Eye Disfigurement (LwFED) and their family members. I write from insider/researcher perspectives. A qualitative study utilising autoethnography and Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis case studies of seven people, male/female, acquired/congenital FED, family members and individuals LwFED. The participants live with four forms of grief chiefly chronic sorrow, disenfranchised, non-finite grief and the loss of their assumptive world. Discussion is raised how participants use my foundation blocks of forgiveness; active intentional decisions (AID); healthy self-esteem (spirituality) and resilience to live with FED healthily.
