posted on 2023-08-01, 03:54 authored by ZALI MAREE O'DEAThe face is key to communication, especially the eyes. This thesis explores the lived experience of people living with Facial Eye Disfigurement (LwFED) and their family members. I write from insider/researcher perspectives. A qualitative study utilising autoethnography and Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis case studies of seven people, male/female, acquired/congenital FED, family members and individuals LwFED. The participants live with four forms of grief chiefly chronic sorrow, disenfranchised, non-finite grief and the loss of their assumptive world. Discussion is raised how participants use my foundation blocks of forgiveness; active intentional decisions (AID); healthy self-esteem (spirituality) and resilience to live with FED healthily.
