Urban travel behaviour changes during the COVID-19 pandemic and their permanency post-pandemic

thesis
posted on 2024-12-04, 06:38 authored by Katherine Pawluk De-Toledo
This thesis examined how the COVID-19 pandemic changed urban travel behaviours and the permanency of these behaviours post-pandemic. A transdisciplinary case study of Melbourne (Australia) was conducted, employing mixed-methods and multiple perspectives (peer-reviewed literature, transport stakeholders and commuters). This research program improved the understanding of working from home, including its influence on travel behaviours and developed an original model of supporting factors. Furthermore, it contributed to developing longer-term knowledge by examining multiple timeframes: pre-, during, anticipated and post-pandemic, and 2050. This thesis represents one of the first multi-study examinations of the impact of COVID-19 on urban travel behaviours.
