thesis
posted on 2023-04-13, 06:27 authored by BRENDAN MATHEW LAWRENCE
A case-comparison research study based in Melbourne, Australia, that aimed to identify the types of urban road conditions that are associated with cyclist injury occurrence. Road locations at which a sample of cyclists were injured to a level requiring hospitalization, were compared to road locations through which a group of non-injured cyclists were observed to ride. The non-injured cyclists were recruited from the roadside and observed cycling in their natural environment. A key finding was the elevated risk of cyclist injury associated with mixed function roads that require cyclist to ride between on-street parking and tram tracks.
