This project addressed improving the experience of cycling within the urban environment by applying urban design principles to the physical infrastructure in order to create an aesthetically appealing cycling journey. Through design practice the research project investigated the role of urban design in fabricating the built environment for a better cycling experience. It did this through responding to intangible and sensory qualities of the urban streetscape. In achieving this aim the study has answered the research question, by developing a design language for cycle infrastructure that can instil a positive response towards the experience of cycling.
