This thesis examines blood clots affecting the arm veins, ranging from smaller clots affecting superficial veins to larger clots affecting deep veins. These blood clots can be due to insertion of needles into veins for catheters and especially affects patients with cancer where blood thinning medication is more likely to cause bleeding. Due to this, it would be useful to be able to predict which cancer patients will develop blood clots from their catheters. Deep blood clots of the arm can also happen spontaneously. The cause and best treatment for these are not clear and require further research.
