thesis
posted on 2021-04-02, 09:40 authored by AMINATH SHABA ISMAIL
This thesis is interested in analysing the historical development of the female citizen-consumer subject in Malaysia, paying particular attention to the role of institutional actors in shaping this process. Drawing on governmentality theories, this study attempts to do so by studying the historical shifts in the gendered discourses that circulated in the oldest English newspaper still in print in Malaysia, published over the years immediately following independence from the Colonial British to present times (i.e. 1959-2018).
