This thesis examines how sulfur and critical elements move in high pressure fluids through subductions zones, the Earth’s deep recycling system. It finds that these elements and fluids are repeatedly recycled with some loss to the overlying volcanic plumbing system. Pressure-temperature conditions controlling the mobilsation of cobalt are identified. It also examines how the unique properties of subduction zone fluids control the geochemistry of source regions of ore deposits in volcanic arcs.
