Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is the most common liver disease globally and can progress to advanced liver disease termed nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The lack of a pre-clinical model that fully recapitulates the clinical manifestations of human disease is a major obstacle to developing therapeutic approaches for NASH. This thesis identified a pre-clinical model that faithfully recapitulates the prominent features of human NASH including changes in liver pathology, lipid accumulation and common metabolic comorbidities. This work will help identify changes that occur in NASH and provide an appropriate model to test therapeutics.
