Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) affect around 10% of pregnancies in Australia. Information about the management of these pregnant women and their views regarding management of HDP or their medicine use are limited. This PhD investigated adherence to clinical guidelines for HDP using medical records, followed up pregnant women until delivery, and conducted interviews with pregnant women. Majority of women with HDP may not take their blood pressure medicine as prescribed. The management of HDP mainly followed clinical guidelines, but the women identified some gaps in their management. Health professionals should work with pregnant women with HDP to optimise outcomes.
