This thesis studies examines the mechanisms underlying associations between sex and markers of dementia risk in mid and late life. It identifies interactions between age and sex, patterns of cardiometabolic risk, and contributions of the menopausal transition to key biomarkers of dementia risk. Results from this thesis suggest that the risk of future dementia may be predicated on the interplay between sex, age, menopause and cardiometabolic health in middle age.
