Traumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is a life-threatening condition that requires urgent and sophisticated medical intervention to prevent death. This thesis set out to provide an overview and critical evaluation of the long-term trends in incidence and outcomes of traumatic OHCA, and the prehospital care provided by the emergency medical services system in the state of Victoria, Australia. The findings of this thesis recommend important preventive and treatment strategies that may help to reduce the burden of traumatic OHCA in the community, and help guide future health service delivery and research.
