The nervous system is a complex structure that regulates animal behavior and physiology. Sex-specific characteristics of the nervous system can cause distinct behaviors between sexes. Nervous system development and function are regulated by proteins called transcription factors that regulate gene expression. In this thesis, I focused on the function of transcription factors in neuronal development and animal behavior in different sexes of the Caenorhabditis elegans animal model. I identified potential regulatory mechanisms that control nervous system development and behavior in a sex-specific manner.
