This thesis examines whether ambulant children with a neurological impairment can improve their high-level mobility skills and thereby participation rates with appropriate intervention. A literature review suggested that improvements are possible. A pilot study compared a six-week high-level mobility group to usual care. The content of the training was based on achieving the biomechanical demands of running, in a manner that was engaging and appropriate for children. The results supported the efficacy of this safe intervention in providing significant and sustained high level mobility and fitness benefits, as well as improved participation to ambulant children with a neurological impairment.
