Type 1 diabetes is difficult to manage and is characterised by insulin deficiency and high blood glucose levels (BGLs). Complications include cardiovascular disease (CVD) and premature mortality. In this thesis, approaches to reducing CVD were appraised and multiple technologies were compared for BGL control and the prevention of complications. Duration of type 1 diabetes was important for predicting cardiovascular risk and new insulin delivery technologies were cost-effective. These results have underpinned new clinical recommendations on the use of technologies for people with type 1 diabetes and inform implementation strategies and future government policy.
