Multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are one of the most widely studied cell types in regenerative medicine. Despite their potential to treat a broad range of diseases, there are still relatively few approved MSC therapies. This is due to variability of tissue-derived MSCs from different sources and donors. To address this, MSCs have been derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) which may be more standardized and easier to produce. This thesis studies the differences between MSCs from different sources and donors, as well as iPSC-derived MSCs (iMSCs) in order to better understand how to use them in clinical trials.
