Towards a point-of-care test for sepsis- Biomarkers of inflammation

thesis

I studied aspects of the innate immune system during sepsis with a focus on biomarkers with potential for use at point-of-care. The research identified novel aspects of the biology of a protein on certain immune cells, called CD64, and provided proof-of-concept for the use of this protein, CD64 and a surrogate neutrophil marker, Neutrophil Elastase, in the diagnosis of sepsis. The findings will inform the development of a test to diagnose sepsis at point-of-care.
