This thesis proposes the new concept of cultural translatability, defined as the feasibility of translating culturally specific thoughts and practices from one society to another. It presents a framework capable of visualizing cultural specificities and explaining why a translated text may not make sense to a target audience, even if it is linguistically accurate. The thesis tests this cultural translatability framework using cases of business communication between English and Japanese.
