Tourism Sustainability in the Maldives: Three Studies on the Dynamics of a Small Island Developing State (SIDS)

This thesis investigates the nexus of tourism and environmental sustainability in small island developing states, specifically focusing on the Maldives. It addresses the literature gap on the impact of coastal deterioration on island tourism sustainability through three interconnected papers. Each paper explores different aspects of the issue from a theoretical perspective and proposes practical remedies. The study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and solutions related to coastal deterioration, offering strategies to enhance environmental sustainability while supporting the economic benefits of tourism in small island settings.
