Through the eyes of secondary students with vision impairment: A phenomenological inquiry into inclusive schooling

This thesis explored the experiences of secondary students with vision impairment attending mainstream schools and provided a rare opportunity to give them voice. Their stories recounted the challenges they faced within and beyond school. Globally, inclusive education is an expectation but the reality for the participants was often exclusionary. Students experienced isolation, bullying, inappropriate teacher and aide support, inability to access curriculum, exclusion from some subjects, and lack of adjustments to support their specific needs. Students with vision impairment must be included in discussions about their own schooling. School staff require education for inclusive schooling to become a reality.
