In this thesis, I investigated how insects adjust and adapt to poor diets and high temperatures. I found that the larval and adult diet of the fruit fly changes the responses to high temperature, and that evolution on poor diets can improve the response to heat. My work is a step towards understanding how organisms will react under climate change, which challenges animals not just with elevated temperatures but also with reduced access to quality food.
