Inflammatory and allergic diseases like asthma, food allergy and inflammatory bowel disease are becoming extremely common. These diseases have been linked to poor diet typical of western society. This doctorate has identified new ways in which eating fibre can protect against such diseases. In addition, this doctorate has discovered molecules involved in this process that are potential targets for new drugs that may treat these diseases.
