Southeast Asia is a continental landmass with two plates converging on each side. Located midway between the two is Peninsular Malaysia. The interaction between both plate margins and Peninsular Malaysia's evolution during the late Mesozoic and Cenozoic is not fully understood. The thesis shows that even though there are two convergent plate margins, Peninsular Malaysia is largely influenced by a single dominant plate margin. A shift in the dominant margin also affected Peninsular Malaysia at the beginning of the Cenozoic, at a time when the India plate was moving north toward Asia.
