The immune system is critical for the control of disease and cancer. A subset of cells within the immune system is programmed to respond rapidly to infection and cancer and these are called natural killer (NK) cells. This thesis identified important control points in the development of NK cells and the mechanisms by which these cells keep us healthy. The results form these studies will provide an important basis for translational therapies using NK cells.
