This PhD investigated the resettlement experiences of South Sudanese refugees in Australia in 2000-2010. It was undertaken at a time when Australia was continuing to debate its responsibilities for accepting and supporting the resettlement of refugees from across the world, including South Sudan. The study drew on ethnographic data from interviews with and narratives of South Sudanese refugees who arrived in Australia in 2000-2010. Findings highlight the rich diversity of capitals, capacities and needs of South Sudanese refugees when they arrived in Australia. The study argues for the importance of genuinely shared responsibility in supporting South Sudanese refugees’ resettlement experiences.
