The lymphatic system plays important roles in maintaining fluid balance, the transport of dietary fat and immune surveillance. The intestinal lymphatic system harbors a large population of immune cells an is therefore a target for immune modulating agents that are used to treat eg. autoimmune diseases or organ transplantation. This thesis has examined a technology that chemically modifies drugs to form prodrugs that mimic the structure of dietary fats and are therefore transported in high concentration into the intestinal lymph. The data presented provides evidence of improved immune suppression using the lipid mimetic prodrug technology.
