This study explored multiple indicators in creating an effective private international school in the context of China. A range of stakeholders were engaged in an inductive process to use multiple data to identify 1) perceived enablers and barriers to an effective private international school and 2) strategies to improve the effectiveness of private international schools. This study offers valuable information to enrich an understanding of China’s international school market and develop culture-oriented private international school policies and practices. Moreover, the findings of this study contribute to forming a theoretical framework for school effectiveness studies from a non-western perspective, namely: “The sunflower model”.
