The mechanistic underpinnings of postprandial thermogenesis in brown fat – the role of glucose-sensing POMC neurons

This thesis examines how the brain controls fat-burning following consumption of a meal. It demonstrates that the nutrient, glucose, can be “sensed” by neurons in the brain with assistance from specialised support cells to promote metabolism and the burning of calories. These findings have implications for the treatment of obesity and related metabolic disorders.
