The impact of moisture on the deformation of porous media: AI-assisted nanomechanics approach

The thesis of Yubing Ouyang investigated the impact of moisture on the deformation of porous media such as soil and cementitious material from the aspect of nanoscale. By innovatively combining atomic-scale simulation and artificial intelligence technology, Yubing proposed a comprehensive nanomechanics approach to reveal the basic principle of the deformation process. The findings generate a systematic understanding of the nanoscale deformation of porous media under different moisture conditions and pave the way for using nanoscale features to explain and predict the performance of porous media in real engineering problems.
