Revolutionary and curative direct-acting antiviral treatments for hepatitis C have made the elimination of hepatitis C a possibility. My thesis explores the impacts of these treatments on the health, wellbeing and everyday life of people who inject drugs. The prevailing understanding of treatment benefit has focused on viral cure and liver health. My findings demonstrate that undertaking and completing treatment has wide-ranging and profound physical, emotional and social benefits. Moreover, these benefits are not being captured by the patient-reported outcome measures currently in use. These findings suggest new ways to promote treatment and engage people who inject drugs with treatment.
