This thesis describes the role of host and bacterial factors involved in the development of Helicobacter pylori-induced gastric diseases. The innate immune molecule NLRC5, has been shown to function as a protective host molecule against a form of B cell lymphoma acquired as a result of chronic H. pylori infection. In addition, specific Helicobacter proteins may play a vital role in mediating gastric inflammation, and potentially the formation of B cell lesions in the stomach during infection.
