The effect of land use on the distribution and microbiota diversity of Aedes albopictus (Diptera: Culicidae) in an urban tropical landscape of Malaysia

thesis

Aedes albopictus is a mosquito species that is native to Malaysia and known to be a secondary vector of dengue. However, it has been reported to be present abundantly in urban environments where in some instances, Ae. albopictus was noted to breed indoors and replaced the more common urban Ae. aegypti populations. This thesis establishes the current distribution of Ae. albopictus in the urban tropical landscape of Klang Valley, Malaysia and elucidates the microbiota composition of Ae. albopictus for future biocontrol strategy to control Ae. albopictus populations.
