This thesis explores the relationship between technology and patriarchal capitalism in contemporary Australian feminist dystopian fiction. It consists of a creative component in the form of a novel titled The Watchpeople and a critical component titled Depictions of technology in Australian feminist dystopian fiction. The creative component is a dystopian novel that focuses on women’s labour in a heightened capitalist world and the effects technology has on both hindering and helping the women’s conditions. The critical component consists of an analysis of four Australian feminist dystopian novels, looking specifically at genre, time, place and technology in relation to women’s labour.
