The Voices of Simone de Beauvoir’s The Second Sex and Old Age: Responding to Anglophone Critiques

thesis

A majority consensus amongst Anglophone commentators today is that Simone de Beauvoir’s text The Second Sex is exclusionary when it comes to working class women, women of color, and Jewish women, and that it is most certainly not “intersectional” in approach. Contesting this oft-repeated dismissal of Beauvoir, I argue that The Second Sex is more intersectional than Anglophone critics have allowed.
