The Role of Perilipin 5 in Regulating Liver Lipid and Glucose Metabolism

Defects in liver fat metabolism are linked to the development of chronic diseases, such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and type 2 diabetes. Perilipin 5 is a protein that controls the breakdown of fat in various tissues. The work in this thesis extends our understanding of the important role of PLIN5 in regulating liver fat and glucose metabolism. This new understanding of PLIN5 functions has implications for the treatment of fatty liver disease and type 2 diabetes.
