Fear is an important survival mechanism because it helps us react to potential threats. Scientists have studied the brain's role in fear and how we control it for many years. Lately, curiosity sparked on how certain chemicals in the brain that regulate our appetite might also affect fear and similar behaviors.
These appetite-regulating chemicals, like ghrelin, leptin, and orexin, interact with the brain's fear circuits and can influence anxiety and stress. When these chemicals get out of balance, it can worsen problems like anxiety disorders and mood issues, which are linked to both hunger and our emotions.
