This body of work has defined the problems associated with patients with obesity who develop colorectal cancer, and has explored a possible therapeutic intervention to reduce the impact obesity can have on the poorer outcomes of the surgical treatment for colorectal cancer. It has also examined the difficulties in running randomised controlled trials in surgery; along with exploring a tool for measuring the technical difficulty of a surgical procedure which will be useful in future surgical trials, surgical trainee assessment and the assessment of new techniques and technologies.
