This thesis examines the problem of AI consciousness: how do we tell that an AI is conscious? At its core, this question is just an extension of a long-standing philosophical problem called the problem of other minds (POM): how do I know that other people have minds? I will be taking three solutions that have been proposed to the POM – the argument from analogy (AA), the argument from best explanation (ABE), and the argument from criteria (AfC) – and apply them to the problem of AI consciousness.
