This thesis adopts a practice-based model to consider the extent to which the dynamic of group belonging can be identified in archaeological expressions of mortuary homogeneity and variation at New Kingdom Gurob. It explores how an 'archaeology of belonging’ may help connect the burial record of this ancient Egyptian settlement with more abstract notions of 'community'. This thesis offers scope for considering how early 20th century excavation data can be approached in a new light through the formulation and application of social practice-based methodologies.
