There is very little published research on post-adoption business intelligence (BI) use by managers in Chinese organizations. The project used a theory-building case study method followed by an applicability check. The researcher visited 12 large Chinese organizations and conducted 78 semi-structured interviews with managers and executives. The insights from the interviews assisted and guided the development, modification, and the evaluation of the Model of Chinese BI System Use (MCBIU). The MCBIU revealed that classic Western theories are not effective in a Chinese context. The research established that the Chinese cultural norm guanxi plays a significant role in managerial BI use.
