There is very little published research on post-adoption business intelligence (BI) ‎use by managers in Chinese organizations. The project used a theory-building case ‎study method followed by an applicability check. The researcher visited 12 large ‎Chinese organizations and conducted 78 semi-structured interviews with managers ‎and executives. The insights from the interviews assisted and guided the ‎development, modification, and the evaluation of the Model of Chinese BI System ‎Use (MCBIU). The MCBIU revealed that classic Western theories are not effective in ‎a Chinese context. The research established that the Chinese cultural norm guanxi ‎plays a significant role in managerial BI use.‎
