Whilst being the largest thalamic nuclei in primates (including humans), the pulvinar has remained understudied, rarely being the focus of any given investigation. However, we are beginning to uncover the extensive connectivity of the pulvinar and subsequently the numerous functions it can contribute to. Together this work reveals that the inferior pulvinar is crucial in the developing brain to map the appropriate organisation of many visuomotor regions pertaining to manual actions and visual perception. This previously unresolved connection between pulvinar input and visually-guided behaviours should now be an important consideration for future research investigating visuomotor perception.
