How micro-organisms evolve to coexist within community contexts is an important and emerging area of research in evolutionary biology, and has practical implications for the maintenance of natural ecosystems. This thesis uses two model community systems to explore which evolutionary factors allow species to adapt to community settings, and which factors lead to increased competition and exclusion between species.
