There is a complex relationship between cardiovascular and cognitive health. My findings suggest that cognitive function is impacted at every stage along the cardiovascular disease continuum starting from cardiovascular risk factors to cardiovascular event. These associations appear to stem from early childhood and are predominantly driven by genetics or environmental factors that are common between twins. The findings from the thesis suggests that the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease can help reduce cognitive decline and dementia.
