The energy sector witnessed significant increase in energy demand over the years leading to environmental damage. With increased awareness of energy’s environmental impact, how can energy generation technology selection take environmental impacts into consideration? Using the definition of the term “green-energy”, energy that can be withdrawn while maintaining the environment, the purpose of this thesis is to lay out a green-energy accounting method that can be used to guide sustainable energy planning. The method evaluates energy generation technologies by including the energy costs of environmental impact removal in their energy accounting.
