This thesis uses oral history interviews with Australians who were in out-of-home care as children to discover aspects of their family lives before, during and after the time that they spent in institutionalised care. By carefully analysing oral history interviews I discover that these family lives can be more complicated than what is represented in public narratives about Forgotten Australians.
